Intissar Belaïd
Born in El Kef, a Tunisian city on the Algerian border, Intissar Belaid is a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker based in Tunisia and Germany. In a world inundated with images, her work seeks to uncover and highlight those that embody the narratives of her region. Intissar began her creative journey with... embroidery, a craft passed down through generations of women in her family, which enabled her to address contemporary issues through an inherited tradition. Simultaneously, she engaged with moving images, initially using this medium to explore her gender and social status within her community. As her practice evolved, Intissar shifted her focus from personal to collective themes. Her eclectic approach challenges established interpretations of history, contrasting them with both personal and collective narratives.
